Project 1 Exercise 2 Larger observational study of an individual tree

The twists and turns of this branch really caught my eye when out on a walk in the woods. There was a lot of light and shadow from a strong sun. As there was so much going on I decided to focus in on this area but finished it at home  from a taken photo, where I could use sepia ink. The decision to use brown ink resulted from my recent research on Lorrain’s ink sketch of the Tiber Landscape. The fine nib of the pen allowed me to scratch on the lichen and texture of the wood while the brush was used to describe shades of tonal contrast. Although I am pleased with this drawing, I have since had my feedback from my previous assignment. Could I be more expressive in my mark making?
